Robert (Bob) Putzer

from Bob's daughter, Anna:

It is with deep sorrow that I have to inform you that at 8:50am, on February 26, 2020, Daddy passed.  He has been cremated and will eventually be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA with graveside services.

Bob Putzer story from Harvey Crawford:

Bob was on the stern planes (port lookout) for my first trim dive at bow planes (starboard lookout).  I tried to tell "Whiskey Bill" (at OOD) that I had NEVER manned a dive before (not even under instruction) but he poo-poohed it off and dove anyway.  Well, there was a huge bubble in the hydros that the planes motor could not overcome!  After a crash dive and switch over to emergency tilt motor, I ended up broaching the boat, running the planes into the stops, with Bob turning white-knuckled on the stern stand . . . ala McHale's Navy!!  Bob saved the day (maybe even the boat) by keeping us even bubble, if not under.  Thanks, Bob!
Bob Putzer story from Bill Moore:

Years ago, when we hooked up with Bob on the East Coast, he told me a story that I will never forget:

He worked at the Pentagon.  However, on 9/11/2001, he was just north of the Pentagon at a meeting when the plane went into the Pentagon, right where his office was!  Talk about being lucky, blessed, or whatever you may want to call it!!

Bob was a great shipmate and we all miss him. . .

Rest your oar, Sailor.
